Annual General Meeting 2014

This year's Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 23 September 2014, 7:00 pm at the Moutere Hills Community Centre.

Please join us on the day to hear updates on our projects and current issues: creating a pathway from the village to the community centre, speed limits on local roads, improving the local water supply.

Also: association matters, financial report and elections, let us know about your concerns.

This is a public meeting and all the community is warmly invited to attend and take part. Please note that only association members will be able to vote in the elections. Moutere Hills residents are invited to join the association through our website, or at the AGM. A detailed agenda will be available as we get closer to the date.

Speed Limits: Outcome of the Mahana Petition

The Mahana group is getting council to move after successfully presenting their petition to reduce the speed limit on Old Coach Road and near Mahana School to Mayor Richard Kempthorn. The petition was signed by over 600 people.

The organising group has now met with TDC Chief Executive Lindsay McKenzie and are negotiating measures to improve the situation. Various steps such as a formal consultation will still be required.

Let's hope that this momentum can be maintained and that some actual action will be taken place in the near future.

Upgrading the Moutere Hills Water Supply

Read here about the outcome of the Public Meeting on water supply on 16 April 2014 organised by the Moutere Hills Residents Association.

The purpose of the public meeting was to explore ways to provide a suitable potable water supply for residents of the inner Moutere Hills and valley. The well-attended meeting heard Tasman District Councillor Brian Ensor and TDC Engineer Joseph Thomas describe the history and shortcomings of the present Dovedale scheme, and the limitations of the Moutere Valley Aquifers.

Mike Eggers of the Braeburn Water Scheme covered the possibilities of basing a community scheme on either the Moutere Valley bores or the Motueka gravels at Pangatotora, using an existing bore.

TDC Speed Limits Review 2014

TDC is starting into a new review of speed limits in the district with the first phase of community feedback open now:

"Tasman communities are invited to send feedback on any of the speed limits covered by the Speed Limit Bylaw. This feedback is the first part of the community engagement process for a full Speed Limit Bylaw review later in the year."

Submissions can be made via this link on the TDC website. Deadline is 30 May 2014.

Since our submissions on Old Coach Road, the Moutere Highway, and lower Neudorf Road made last year had met with the barrier of not having been consulted on in time we are now re-submitting these to the new review.

Public Meeting on Water Supply

The Moutere Hills Residents Association invites all residents to attend a Public Meeting to discuss options for the future of the Water Supply servicing Upper Moutere and surrounding areas.

The main focus for this meeting will be to discuss options for the provision of a potable Water Supply for Moutere Hills Residents. We are expecting staff from the Tasman District Council to bring the meeting up to date on the limitations of the Dovedale Scheme, and possibilities for its upgrading or replacement.

Also addressing the meeting will be members of the Braeburn Water Scheme Committee to discuss the possibility of creating a new locally managed water scheme using bore water from the various aquifers under the Moutere Valley.

The issue is of importance to the community and this is an opportunity for residents to learn about the options available, and to influence the outcomes. If you have concerns about the quality and suitability of your existing supply, make sure you find the time to attend this meeting.

The meeting will be held Wednesday 16 April 2014 - 7:30 pm at the Moutere Hills Community Centre. Further details and updates will be available closer to the date.
