Community Pathway - Goals

The goal of this project is to create a safe walk and cycle track from the Upper Moutere village centre (school grounds) to the Moutere Hills Community Centre on the Moutere highway.

With this pathway we are trying to provide

  • safe passage for school children travelling on foot or by bike from the school to events at the community centre without being endangered by highway traffic
  • an attractive route for pedestrians and cyclists travelling from the North into the village centre; this could include visitors to events at the community centre proceeding to visit the village
  • an enjoyable and safe trail for a local afternoon walk, a morning run, relaxed rambling, or pushing a pram away from our busy country roads

If this trail can be created with success, it might also open up options to establish further tracks or walkways in our area.

We are currently in the process of finding a suitable route for this project and discussing options with landowners.

Safety on Local Roads First Target of Residents Association

Road safety concerns aired by local residents at a recent Moutere Hills Residents Association public meeting have resulted in prompt action from the Council.

Councillor Trevor Norris has reported that the TDC is to formally investigate the possibility of introducing speed restrictions on the Moutere Highway leading up to the Community Centre entrance way, and also on Old Coach Road approaching the Mahana School.

The website for the Moutere Hills Residents Association has gone on-line. We hope that this site will serve as

  • first point of contact for anybody interested in our work
  • channel of project updates and a place to collect comments and suggestions
  • the place to go if you would like to join the MHRA

MHRA Founded!

At the recent public meeting on 01/10/2012 the Moutere Hills Residents Association was formally created.

With twenty founding members we were able to ratify our society rules and are now on our way to becoming incorporated. Thanks to all who joined us at the meeting and we will keep you updated of events!

Community Association for the Moutere Hills Mooted

A recent meeting of residents living in the inner Moutere Hills area voted unanimously to form a local Community Association, to address community issues.

Support for this move came from attending Moutere Ward councillors Trevor Norriss and Brian Ensor. They told the meeting the Council preferred to work with representative community groups to discuss local issues and get feedback.
